The first half of November in discs
by Nick Giancola posted November 14, 2008
New music released November 11th, 2008
This is interesting: The Flaming Lips released this week a science fiction film 7 years in the making titled Christmas On Mars. Accordingly, the film is soundtracked by the band.

Out on the Slanty Shanty label, Anavan's sophomore effort titled Cover Story. RCRD LBL is streaming this in its entirety over here.

Ludacris is back with Theater of the Mind. I've got some links for the single "I Know What Them Girls Like": listen, watch.

The Bronx release their 3rd self-titled album. Strangely, these guys are from Los Angeles.

Some.... notable.... greatest hits collections out this week: Hilary Duff's Best Of (is she even 21 yet?) and Enrique Iglesias' Greatest Hits. Go get 'em! Or don't. I wouldn't.

Quite possibly the best actor in history, Kevin Costner debuts on the alt-country scene with his band Modern West. The album is titled Untold Truths. Seen Dances With Wolves lately? No? Here, let me help you: netflix.com.

Live release their first live album, Live at the Paradiso - Amsterdam.

I want this: Indiana Jones: The Complete Soundtracks Collection from legendary composer John Williams.

Producer 88-Keys, who's worked with A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, Macy Gray, and others, released his first solo album, The Death of Adam. The disc features 88-Keys as emcee and musician and is produced by longtime friend Kanye West.

By-The-Numbers, a covers album from The Postmarks. Listen: "11:59" mp3.
The first week of November: Tuesday the 4th
Danielson's fourth album on Secretly Canadian, Trying Hartz is out now.

Ropechain is the second LP (and first for Asthmatic Kitty) from Indianapolis-based musician Grampall Jookabox (aka David "Moose" Adamson). Listen: "The Girl Ain't Preggers" mp3. I heard the latest single on KCRW a couple weeks back and had a little chuckle when I heard him singing "the girl ain't preggers."

A couple of shnazzy Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam) reissues: 1970's Tea for the Tillerman and 71's Teaser and the Firecat. Both come with bonus discs, artwork, photos, and some of Yusuf's writing.

Out on Domino Records, Limbo, Panto by Wild Beasts.

The debut album from Gringo Star, All Y'all, produced by Ben H. Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Animal Collective).
