by Nick Giancola posted October 17, 2008
Hello lovely world. Albeit a little late, here are my picks of new records out Tuesday, October 14th, 2008. And I'm happy to say we're all caught up to date with new release coverage now that you can mosey on over to the 7th and Sept 23rd & 30th.

Secret Machines self-release their third LP this week. This one is self-titled. Take a listen: single "Atomic Heels" mp3 and exclusive non-album track "Dreaming of Dreaming" mp3.

» The Decemberists release the first volume of their Always the Bridesmaid: A Singles Series. This is available digitally and on 12" vinyl. I can't seem to find cover art for this one...

Described as an "experimental noise collective," Teith debut with the Oak City EP. Fun fact: this group includes Pelican guitarist Trevor de Brauw.

The press release puts it perfectly: "A one-man music machine with a penchant for sugar-sweet melodies, potty-mouthed humor and extensive audience participation, Totally Michael has perfectly captured the feeling of his freewheeling live shows on his debut self-titled full-length."

Bowie's releasing something called iSelect this week—fitting to the title, it's his 12 favorite David Bowie songs.

Keane is back with their third album, Perfect Symmetry.

Gossip In the Grain by Ray LaMontagne.

Buena Vista Social Club At Carnegie Hall is finally available in strictly music form. Ten years since the show was recorded in film history by German director Wim Wenders, the World Circuit/Nonesuch labels have made these exclusive audio recordings available to us all.

Johnny Cash's legendary At Folsom Prison is being re-issued in 2-disc form, this time around including Bestor Cram and Michael Streissguth's documentary Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison.

Benoît Pioulard (who recently released Songs Spun Simla with Praveen Sharma) is back with a solo work titled Temper.

Alright I have no idea what this band sounds like but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to share their name with you: Cartography by Buttless Chaps.

We Are the Architects by Mikoto.

New from Equal Vision Records: Davenport Cabinet, side-project of Coheed & Cambria guitarist Travis Stever, debuts with Nostalgia.

Reefer is Nick Thorburn (of Islands, The Unicorns) and LA producer Daddy Kev. The album, available digitally this week, is self-titled and has some remixes from Flying Lotus and DNTEL. Listen: "Let It Go [Flying Lotus remix]" mp3.

Menahan Street Band debut with Make the Road By Walking. Listen: "Tired of Fighting" stream and "Make the Road By Walking" mp3 (Jay-Z sampled this one in his 2007 hit "Roc Boys").
