Personally, I'm not really a fan of music compilations and remixes, but once I popped in
Dgenetics' "Generation V: A Dgenetics Music Compliation," I could understand why people could take such a liking to them. With "Generation V, Dgenetics creates a list of songs that seems extremely bizarre and full of cheesiness-if that word didn't exist, it does within this album.
The compilation consists of eight songs containing the work of artists DJ Pumpkin Patch, Old Gold, Flore, and Degenerate Nation. Individually, each song has its own rich sound and the artists their own voice, which is something that usually makes a great album, but here makes "Generation V" hard to follow. The fault is that the music compiled within this album doesn't have any consistency, and going from a smooth hip-hop track like "I Want More" to a hip, disco track like "Rushin" is a difficult transition for a listener. This isn't including the two tracks by Flore, which should never be put in the same compilation as DJ Pumpkin Patch. Still, despite the strange combination of the playlist and the extra-terrestial cheesiness growing out of this error, the album is addictive. Yes, it's weird, and doesn't make any sense, but it's completely entertaining. Pop it in your CD player, and you'll soon realize that Dgenetics does it right.
