Days, centuries, futures and histories
by Nick Giancola posted April 7, 2008
Clearly, back on track towards world domination.

Leave it to the Internet: A completely out-of-contact buddy of mine from years ago Facebooked me the other day. This is the guy who originally helped give birth to the idea of Everythingrock, only to be scrapped as the two of us parted ways after a couple months of early development. Of course, the idea resurfaced years later when Johnny and I completed and launched the site (the present site really has nothing to do with the original idea aside from being called Everythingrock and also about music). Chris, my old friend, stumbled across Everythingrock and ran a WHOIS to find my identity and search me on Facebook. In commenting on the toddler* version of a site he last saw in the womb, two of the things he said really made my day: he said "all the information flows really well" and it has "such an easy-read format." In response to this, in all my glee I say to ye: "Onward! Into the future we go!"

We've been making some changes around the site lately. You've probably noticed the nice new addition of color at the top: Everythingrock now tells you the date and the day of the week. My computer won't even show me the date unless I click on the time (silly OS X)—on Everythingrock you don't have to click a thing. Isn't life simple? In the filter (the big ole' list of articles), we've added headers separating content by when it was posted. The colorful strips on the left-side of these headers correspond with the color of the day (in the colorful week at the top) those articles were posted. For some reason we thought it would be nifty to know whether the article you're about to read was posted on a Friday or a Tuesday.

Also in site updates: While looking at an article—try this one—if it's not entirely original content (a press release or something of the sort), you can see who posted it. Each of us news-posters tend to do things a bit differently and add some of our own commentary here and there, so we figured it'd be nice to know who posted something.

The future: The possibilities are endless. Working with the current site as somewhat of a base, over the next months (years...centuries?) we will be improving, adding, removing, modifying, rethinking, and doing all other sorts of things to Everythingrock. We're looking to build on our solid base of writers, in order to give you more content more consistently. We're looking for writers with every sort of love, every sort of interest, and willing to submit in every way from one-off to regular contributions. If you're interested, send an email to Johnny at jvining@everythingrock.com.

While I sit around improving/admiring Everythingrock I do not sit in silence—Oh No! With my AKG K141 headphones by my side (on my head, really), I attack music head-on.

What I've been playing lately: Clinic's brand new Do It (out tomorrow! get it and listen to "Corpus Christi" in your headphones on full volume—if that's not loud enough for you, look into making one of these), The Black Keys' Attack & Release, Thao & the Get Down, Stay Down's We Brave Bee Stings And All, and the forthcoming Nortec Collective disc Tijuana Sound Machine (out May 6th). Oh and let's not forget the disc loaded with Beatles mp3's that never leaves my car player.

* I refer to Everythingrock as a toddler not to say we are small and childish, but rather to emphasize the seemingly endless future for improvement and growth.
