Get your ears ready kids, now is the time to catch onto a phenomena-in-the-making before it has reached the uncomfortable glitz of the mainstream world. In the spirit of longtime favorites Daft Punk and 2007's breakout dance duo, Justice, French electro house beast Danger looks set to be the sound of electronic music for 2008 with his upcoming second EP and debut solo album (release dates unknown at the moment). The first EP, known simply as
9/14 2007 was a late speaker blower that reached the radars of a few in the electronic community last year.
Danger clearly knows the history behind its conception, using the pyramid motif Daft Punk turned into an icon with their classic stage shows. Inevitably, comparisons were and will be made to that familiar French throwback sound of Justice and Kavinsky, as there is limited knowledge of French electronic music in the U.S. mainstream. Danger differs in that it has a remarkably sinister and sexual sound, with squealing 80's synths and the well placed glitch female vocals, such as on the hyper-infectious opener "11h30".
After overplaying the aforementioned single, you are going to want to direct your full attention to the powerhouse of the EP, which is the banging bass tester "14h54", which sounds like the soundtrack of a dance party that is set in an early 90s Sega Genesis action game. You'll know whether you love this artist likely within the first minute of the track, as the intro is simply stunning. Tacked on in the middle of the EP is the Data remix of "11h30" which is listenable but won't get your replays when put against Danger's original tracks surrounding it. Especially considering the following number, "19h11", with its intricate beats and distorted synth lines going every which way in a highway of IDM excess.
With three originals and one remix, Danger's first EP leaves a mark on your consciousness and makes you salivate at the thought of a new release, a sign of a young promising craftsman.
You can find the first EP on iTunes. In addition, go to Danger's myspace to listen to "9h20" and "Revolte at 22h10", two exceptional new tracks that have yet to be released.
